Apple and other digital retailers are planning to offer 24-bit audio to consumers. It should be an easy sell; recording studios use 24-bit, it’s how the music was mixed, and it’s how the consumers should hear it. Right? Wrong.
24-bit audio might be the staple of recording studios, but there’s a reason it should stay there. 24-bit has a really low “noise floor” — that hum you hear if you turn a silent amplifier up really high. With 16-bit, the noise floor is slightly higher. While that might be a problem in a studio where you’re boosting sounds to be clear and loud, it’s irrelevant to the end listener who is given the fully mastered and noise-free version already. Even CDs are 16-bit, and the sonic quality of a CD is an accepted definition of consumer-worthy HD quality.

Daft Punk won’t be walking home with an Oscar this Sunday, but Tom and Guy do have an equally impressive claim to fame: they’ll soon be able open their fridge and pull out a bottle of Daft Coke. That’s because the iconic French duo have just partnered with Coca-Cola for a specially branded version of the soda. According to Hypebeast, Daft Coke will be available starting in March, and will be produced in two distinctive colorways (silver and gold), which were inspired by the helmets worn by Daft Punk.
This marks the second time Coke has paired up with a dance-inducing outfit. In 2009, Justice got their own Coke bottle, but I guess that went the way of their new music.

Radiation from a mobile phone call can make brain regions near the device burn more energy, according to a new study.
Cellphones emit ultra-high-frequency radio waves during calls and data transfers, and some researchers have suspected this radiation — albeit inconclusively — of being linked to long-term health risks like brain cancer. The new brain-scan-based work, to be published Feb. 23 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, shows radiation emitted from a cellphone’s antenna during a call makes nearby brain tissue use 7 percent more energy.

Segways are nerdy and awkward, there’s no way around it. This solowheel, a “self balancing electric unicycle” is just as nerdy as a Segway but slightly less awkward. The Solowheel only weighs 20 pounds and comes in a relatively small package and is definitely no where near as unwieldy as a Segway. Plus, it doesn’t come with the reputation of mall cops and weirdos. It’s supposed to come out in March for $1,500.

Lil Wayne has broken the Guinness World Record for most Facebook likes on a single post in 24 hours — a record only too recently created and briefly held by Oreo.
Around 16.7 million Facebook users “like” Oreo’s page on the social network; Lil Wayne’s fanbase weighs in at 20 million Facebook users strong. However, the high level of engagement between Weezy and his fans tipped the balance in his favor.
