Google’s self-driving car project is ambitious at heart–working with DARPA, Google is aiming to cut the number of traffic-related fatalities by as much as half, saving fuel along the way. But the badassery of the project has been kept largely under wraps until now: This video comes from a demonstration at a TED conference, and we can see that Google’s robot drivers have the cold, steel heart of a rally driver.
Arguably the best 2011 release from Nike SB thus far, its “Statue of Liberty” Dunk High begins to hit accounts stateside. Aside from a nice leather colorway, the most hyped element of the sneaker is its ability to shed an outer layer of paint, leaving an old oxidized finish that mimics that of New York’s iconic landmark. Artist, Ed Chapman fashioned this portrait of Jimi Hendrix from 5000 guitar picks. Last month, it was auctioned off for cancer research, fetching £23,000.
Here’s an interesting find – an officially branded Google stereo system.
According to Electric Pig, this unit turned up at an audio-visual industry trade show in the UK last month. The story goes that Google commissioned this unit from a manufacturer called Chord Electronics. A customised version of the company’s own Chordette Carry system, the ‘Google Carry’ is branded in the search giant’s colours and displays the word ‘DROID’ on its LED display.
Chord is apparently under an NDA, so can’t discuss the product (although why they’re publicly displaying it in that case, we’re not sure) and it’s not intended for public sale. We’ve contacted Google to find out if this really is the real deal or not. Either way, it’s an interesting, if ugly, curio.
